How To Wash Kids Toys – 5 Tips You Should Know

Must Read

One of the most important ways to protect your children from dangerous chemicals in the home is by washing their toys properly every once in a while. However, it’s also crucial that you never expose children to these same chemicals when cleaning their toys, so it’s important to know how to wash kids toys safely and effectively with these five tips.

1) Rethink Toy Storage

Most of us have our kids’ toys strewn about in various baskets or crammed into toy boxes. But this isn’t the most effective way to store toys – or to keep them clean.

Instead, try storing them in clear plastic bins. That way, you can see everything that’s in each bin and easily grab whatever you need. Plus, it’s easy to wipe down the bins if they get dirty.

And, because they’re transparent, you can see what’s inside at a glance so your little one doesn’t pull out a dusty old puzzle from the back corner. Clear storage containers also come with lids that snap on tight so little hands won’t be able to remove them and spill their contents all over the floor.

2) Disinfect with Bleach

Bleach is a powerful disinfectant that can kill germs, bacteria, and viruses. To disinfect with bleach, mix one tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water. submerge the toys in the mixture for five minutes.

Remove the toys and rinse them thoroughly with clean water. Allow the toys to air dry completely before giving them back to your child. You may want to use a paper towel or dish cloth to pat down any surface areas where the liquid might have pooled.

If you have hard plastic toys that are difficult to get clean or if they are made from a porous material like PVC, it’s best not to use bleach because it can eat away at their protective coating.

3) Wash Separately

It’s important to wash kids toys separately from other items in the laundry. This helps to prevent the spread of germs and bacteria. Plus, it allows you to use a lower water temperature, which is better for delicate toys.

If you are washing stuffed animals, use warm water with detergent and don’t forget to turn them inside out! Rinsing your toy off with clean tap water after cleaning will remove any soap residue that may remain on the toy.

Some scents can react with plastic parts on your kids toys and cause them to break down faster. You should also avoid using bleach as this can deteriorate the material or even lead to discoloration over time.

4) Wash by Hand with Non-Toxic Detergent

The best way to wash kids toys is by hand, using a non-toxic detergent. This will help avoid any harmful chemicals coming into contact with the toys.

Fill a sink or basin with warm water and add a few drops of the detergent. Stir to create suds. Submerge the toys in the water and let them soak for a few minutes before scrubbing them clean with a soft cloth.

5) Dry in Airy Place

The sun is a great natural disinfectant, so if you can, lay the toys out in an airy place to dry in the sun. If it’s raining or if you don’t have access to an outdoor space, make sure the room you’re drying them in has good ventilation.
