Laka Glacier trip via Triund is a short trip that one can easily do on their weekend. Laka Glacier is an easy 13 kilometres trek that can be done by any beginner trekker. This is situated at an altitude of 10,600. Here you can also explore the beauty of the amazing Kangra valley and the Dhauladhar ranges. The long trail goes through rhododendron and oak forests. Spend the night beside the bonfire and enjoy the sky full of glittering stars. Laka Glacier trip is a 3 to 4 days short trip and famous for trekking and Camping. 

Round of the year you can do this trek. March to June is the ideal time for doing this trek via Triund. From March to June the total glacier is filled with white snow. During the post monsoon period there is no snow at all on the Laka glacier; this time you can experience morain here. During winter the temperature of a day can hovers around 14 to 19 degree celsius. At night it can drop to 2 to 5 degree celsius. In summer the temperature hovers around 16 to 25 degree celsius. At night it can drop to 9 to 10 degree celsius. Near Mcleodganj you can explore the Norbulingka Monastery. This is a beautiful place to visit. Apart from that you can also explore the Dalai Lama Complex which is a perfect peaceful place.

Day No-1

Mcleodganj To Triund Trek:

While trekking from Mcleodganj to Triund this total trail will give you an amazing beauty of the Dhauladhar ranges and Kangra valley.This is the best short weekend trip near Delhi. The trekking route has an easy gradient so anyone can do this trek. The base of the Triund trek is Dharamkot, this is a small village and 2 kilometres from here. At the top you can spot the rich Tibatan culture. In the Post monsoon period you can get a clear view of the amazing mountain peaks.  

Day No- 2

Triund To Laka Glacier:

In the morning after completing your breakfast start your trek to the Laka glacier. On the trail you can spot the Lahesh cave. The distance between Laka Glacier to the Triund top is just 2 kilometres. You can camp under the Lahesh cave overnight and enjoy the bonfire. After arriving at Laka glacier, enjoy the beauty of the whole place. Take some beautiful pictures here. In December here you can experience snow everywhere. Stay here overnight and enjoy your delicious dinner sitting beside the bonfire under the vast black sky full of stars. 

Day No- 3

Trek Back to Mcleodganj:

Get up early in the morning then wash your face and see the stunning sunrise behind the mountain peaks. This will never be a forgettable thing. Then start descent down  to Mcleodganj. 

How to reach:

The base of the trek is located at Mcleodganj which is about 500 kilometres from Delhi. s From Chandigarh Mcleodganj is about 250 kilometres. After arriving at Delhi you can take an overnight ac or non-ac Volvo bus. There are also trains available to Mcleodganj. One can also go via Pathankot which is a six to seven hours journey to Mcleodganj.

By Flight:

Dharamshala-Kangra airport or the Gajjal airport is the closest airport in Mcleodganj. The airport is 20 kilometres from Mcleodganj. By flight it takes only 3 hours to reach Delhi to Mcleodganj.

By Train:

There is no direct railway connectivity from Delhi to reach at Mcleodganj. Pathankot is the only closest railway station in Mcleodganj. From Mcleodganj the station is 90 kilometres. From Pathankot you can book/hire a taxi to reach Mcleodganj.

Things You need to Carry:

  1. Medicines and first aid: The most important ingredients are medicines. So,pack some medicines (Combiflam  for Fever + Reduce Muscle Pain ,Zintac/Aciloc/Rantac/ Omez for Acidity, ORS sachets for dehydration) and a first aid kit with you. Band aid, pain relief spray, 
  2. Dry foods: Pack some dry foods with you. Carry a coffee mug and a spoon while eating this will help you.
  3. Water bottles: Take 2, two litres water bottles with you while trekking. 
  4. Plastic Bags:Carry a few plastic bags to pack your wet clothes and shoes, but don’t throw plastic anywhere, always use a dustbin.
  5. Cap or hat and sunglasses: At the high altitude region the sun is getting more harsh with you and your skin so you need to carry sunglasses and a cap with you.Put some good sunscreen on your face and neck this will help you from sunburn.
  6. Hand gloves: Try to wear good hand gloves. Windproof and waterproof hand gloves will help you a lot.
  7. Toothpaste, A Toothbrush,towel,lip balm,moisturiser.
